Side pots

Side pot types — what are they and how do they work?

Big Bass, Goon Fish, threshold pots, and custom pots. Each is opt-in or automatic.

LimitLock Pro supports four flavors of side pot:

Big Bass — heaviest single fish wins the pot. Almost every tournament has one. Configure: opt-in fee (e.g. $20), how it's funded (cash at the ramp, online with registration, or main pot bonus).

Goon Fish — smallest fish in the bag wins (yes, smallest). Lighthearted side pot at most clubs. Configure same as Big Bass.

Threshold pot — pays out only when a fish crosses a threshold weight (e.g. "5-lb pot — pays only when someone catches a 5+ lb bass"). Optional rollover: if no one hits it this tournament, the prize rolls to the next event.

Custom pot — anything else. Define your own rule: heaviest 5-fish bag with all fish over a length, etc.

Funding:

  • Online with registration — anglers pay the side pot fee at checkout via Stripe. Money flows to the organizer's account same as the entry fee.
  • Cash at the ramp — organizer collects cash on event day. The side-pots check-in page tracks who paid.
  • Main pot bonus — the side pot is funded from the main pot itself. No separate fee.

Place winnings:

  • Each pot has configurable "places paid" (1, 2, 3...) and a split per place (e.g. 70/20/10). Default is 100% to first place.
