Weigh-in

How does voice entry work for weigh-ins?

Tap the mic, say boat number and weights, the form fills itself.

On the weigh-in page, tap the mic button at the top of the form to start voice entry. Then speak your line:

"Boat 3, bag 15 point 4, big fish 6.2, goon 1"

The parser fills the form. You eyeball it, hit Submit. If something was misheard you can tap the field and fix it before submitting.

Patterns that work:

  • Boat number: "boat 3", "boat number 3", "boat 12"
  • Bag weight: "bag 15.4", "total 18 pounds", "overall 14 and a half" (= 14.5)
  • Big fish: "big fish 6.2", "big bass three pounds", "big 5"
  • Goon fish: "goon 1", "goon fish 0.8"
  • Fish counts: "5 fish brought", "alive 5"
  • Decimals: "fifteen point four", "six and a quarter" (= 6.25)
  • Word numbers: zero through twenty are recognized

Limitations: background noise at the dock can throw off the recognizer. Hold the phone close, push-to-talk style. The browser sends audio to Google's speech servers (Chrome) or processes on-device (Safari). Voice support requires Chrome, Edge, or Safari — Firefox doesn't support the Web Speech API yet.
